Consider burning for more extended periods as the scent is not very potent. This candle eliminates some smells better than others.

THE SCOOP

This scented wax candle uniquely combines grapefruit and peppermint with extracts of neroli and lemon. It uses Odourfoyl technology, which eliminates terrible odours by attacking their molecular structure instead of covering up the scent. Your space will smell clean for up to 10 hours after neutralising the odour. This candle can burn for approximately 45 hours.

  •  Odour-eliminating technology
  •  Unique scent
  •  Long burn time

As the candle burns, the lid gets slightly discoloured, so consider removing it indoors. Over time, it gets harder to reach the wick to re-light the candle because of the jar’s shape and narrow opening.

THE SCOOP

This 540-gram white candle is in a thick, heart-shaped glass jar with a brass lid. The wax and wick fit securely inside the jar, making this a safe indoor option. This candle is ideal for sentimental occasions, especially as a tribute to a loved one or beloved family pet who passed away. It can burn for up to 80 hours and emits a mild, pleasant aroma.

Pros
  • Beautiful memorial candle
  • Long burn time

Buying Guide

Your odour-eliminating candle options are seemingly unlimited. We’ve listed some important considerations to help you decide which candles will benefit you and your pets.

  • Scent: There are floral, fruity, woody, fresh and exotic scent categories, and the options in each are unlimited. Often, you may gravitate towards just one or two types. Also, consider the potency of the aroma, the room size, and if you need to ward off a particular smell. For pet odours, a fresh scent might work best.
  • Ingredients: If you are health and environmentally conscious, you’ll want to look for candles made with essential oils and natural fragrance oils (these are harder to find). Also, consider candles made from plant-based waxes and are chemical and cruelty-free. If you have allergies, avoid ingredients that might irritate your sinuses. These warnings are usually on the labels.
  • Burn Time: Each candle, based on size, materials and ingredients, will burn for a specific time. If you enjoy daily aromatherapy or need to cover up pungent pet scents regularly, consider a candle with a longer burn time to get more use. A shorter burn time is not a problem if you only light candles on special occasions.
  • Price: Some brands have a long-standing history of safer, quality ingredients, original scents and odour-fighting technology, but their candles will cost you. If you need your fragrances to pack a punch against unpleasant odours, consider purchasing these over the cheaper candles that merely mask.

FAQ

Q: Do odour-eliminating candles work?

A: Not all scented candles have odour-eliminating capabilities. Some candles use traditional fragrances that mask unwanted odours by overpowering them. Sometimes that works, and other times, the scents merge to create an equally unpleasant or worse odour. Then some candles have proper odour-eliminating technology. When burnt, they release odour-neutralising enzymes that attack and break down the pungent smell on a molecular level, reducing or removing the scent and replacing it with a much more appealing aroma. If you have a specific odour you need to remove, find a candle designed to eliminate it.

Q: What types of candles are safe to use around pets?

A: Before burning any candles, ensure that your pet has no respiratory issues. Signs and symptoms include laboured or rapid breathing, sneezing, coughing, or a runny nose. Once your pet is not at risk, weigh the differences between paraffin wax and vegetable/plant-based wax. Burning paraffin wax releases chemicals that can harm both pets and humans. However, the dosage is usually tiny, so people continue to use them. To be safe, you can opt for vegetable/plant-based wax instead. Place your candle away from pets and small children to avoid burns.
